2023 was a great year for motorcycle rides! I started out the year with a new bike…my 2022 Yamaha Tenere 700, and broke it in with rides in Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. I got to spend time with old riding friends and made a few new ones. Riding in Spain for 2 weeks in the spring was absolutely amazing. Back home, 2MileMoto hosted its first event, and we found some great new roads in Colorado and Utah.

Here are a few highlights from the best rides of 2023.

Riding in Baja

Riding in Baja was a blast! We started in Yuma, AZ and made our way down to Loreto before heading back. Along the way, we watched some great sunrises, explored some great towns, met some great people, ate great food and rode some great roads. We dodged rattlesnakes, soaked in oceanside hot springs, went kayaking, explored churches and monasteries, found gas in some unusual places and brought back some great stories.

Springtime in Spain was amazing. From Madrid, we rode through beautiful towns with churches and castles perched on hilltops, we visited beaches, we twisted along mountain passes, we sampled local wine, ham, olives and cheese, we attended the annual Feria in Sevilla, we visited Gibraltar, and we toured the windmills of La Mancha.

In July we took off on a 4 day ride through Colorado and Northern New Mexico. We found some great roads and stunning scenery south of Hwy 160 and along the Conejos River. In New Mexico, we soaked in natural hot springs and road through beautiful forests.

In September, I drove up to Oregon and rode up the coast of Washington and took a ferry to Vancouver Island. I got to ride with some friends from past trips. Vancouver Island was amazing, and I wish I had set aside more time to stay longer.

Motorcycle at Strathcona Provincial Park

Back in Colorado in late September we rode the first ever Weston Pass Cheeseburger Run. This was a great fall ride with new and old friends over 2 passes with a stop for lunch in Hartsel. Hopefully this will become an annual event.

In late October, we took one last ride to Utah before snow came to the mountains. We camped under the stars along the San Rafael Swell near Green River and rode through canyons and past rock arches. We hiked to dinosaur footprints and ancient pictographs.

2023 was a great riding year. Let’s hope 2024 is even better!
